Divination Tools For Tapping Into the Cosmos
3 years ago
Divination is a spiritual practice that allows you to gain insight from your guides and your intuition to help guide you through life. Different methods of divination can be traced back thousands of years to ancient civilizations and included practices such as reading turtle shells, using sand, and even fasting. Continue reading to learn about a few of the more modern divination practices, how you can use them for your own spiritual journey, and which tools can help you along the way.
Crystals
Crystals are a great tool to help strengthen your intuition and your divinatory practice. From opening the Third Eye to increasing clarity, there are multiple ways these powerful stones can assist in your practice.
Amethyst is a stone of wisdom that connects with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, helping to connect you to your guides and advance your psychic abilities. Obsidian, often associated with grounding and protection, is another stone that can be used for divination. This crystal is frequently used for scrying, where a practitioner will look into an obsidian scrying mirror in candlelight and interpret the images received.
Pendulums
Another way to use crystals for divination is by using a crystal pendulum. A pendulum is a triangular crystal attached to a chain that swings and relays messages from guides. When you first begin to practice with a pendulum, you will want to attune it to you. This is to ensure that the pendulum will recognize you and will work with your energy. To do this, you’ll begin by cleansing the stone with smoke or moonlight and then holding it in your hands. Close your eyes and begin to feel the energy between you and the pendulum. During this process, you will also need to become attuned to how the pendulum swings.
Most often, they will swing back and forth, side to side, and in circular motions. Hold the pendulum up between your thumb and forefinger and ask it to show you what ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ and ‘uncertain’ will look like, and make note of the directional change. When using a pendulum, it’s important to stay as unbiased as possible with your answer. As you set an intention and ask your question, let the pendulum swing on its own. Because it is connected to your energy, it can swing falsely due to your influence. Stay neutral, and only ask questions that you are ready to answer. In some cases, the pendulum may even relay that you aren’t ready to know an answer at that moment.
Runes
Carved in either wood or stone, runes are a divination tool that you can use in a similar way to tarot or oracle cards. Each rune is carved with symbols from the ancient Elder Futhark language and consists of 24-25 pieces in a set. The Elder Futhark language consists of the oldest runic alphabet and is tied to Norse and Germanic languages.
To practice with runes, place the pouch in your non-dominant hand and sit with your intention or question. You can pull one rune out for a yes/no question or pull a whole spread (3, 5, or 7 pieces) like you would when creating a tarot spread.
Tasseomancy
Tasseomancy, or tasseography, is the art of reading tea leaves. This is a great practice for engaging and fine-tuning your intuition, as it is all based on your interpretation of the leaves. Using a mystical teacup is a great way to help you get started with the practice because you can begin by focusing on what symbols the leaves follow around, rather than the symbols that the leaves make themselves.
When reading tea leaves, you’ll begin by steeping your loose leaf tea and enjoying the drink. When you have just enough to swirl the leaves around at the end, stir clockwise three times while thinking of your intention. Flip the cup upside down on a plate or saucer so the liquid can drain, and flip the cup back. Observe where the leaves have fallen or what shape they have formed. Tune inward and see what immediately comes to mind.
Tarot & Oracle Cards
Tarot and oracle cards are popular choices when it comes to divination tools. With countless decks to choose from, it is entirely up to you to decide which one fits your needs. From decks that encourage self-care to those that tie in astrology, you will be able to find one that could suit any of your desires.
Before you begin using a tarot or oracle deck, it’s important to cleanse and connect with it. To cleanse, use your favorite incense or lay a cleansing crystal on top of the deck. After this, hold the deck in your hands and close your eyes. You can also pull an introductory spread with the cards to see how it will work with you and what lessons it can help you learn. From there, there are numerous spreads that you can use to connect with your guides, or you can simply pull a card a day to get an overview of what you can expect before you even leave your home.
